PHOTOGRAPHY PODCAST + EDUCATION
Nature photography conversations, community, workshops... and fun.
A laid-back podcast and learning community for nature and landscape photographers, created by Michael Rung and Jeffrey Tadlock. Listen in on our biweekly podcast, join the conversation, or learn with us through small-group photography workshops built around practical instruction, creative growth, and time in the field.
Whether you listen, hop into the community, or learn with us in the field, the goal is the same: help you become a more confident, thoughtful, and capable nature photographer.

Michael Rung

Jeffrey Tadlock
Between us, we bring over two decades of nature and landscape photography experience, more than 10 years of educational content on YouTube (with 1.5 million combined views), and experience leading small group workshops.
Since launching the Shutter Nonsense podcast in June 2025 we've seen over 15,000 downloads, too!
But the numbers are only part of it. Our teaching style is practical, approachable, and rooted in real field experience. No rigid formulas or rules, or one-size-fits-all advice.

Small-group nature photography workshops
Our workshops are designed for photographers of all skill levels who want more confidence in the field. Each experience focuses on small groups, individual instruction, creative growth, and the technical skills needed to make stronger images in real conditions. Classroom image critiques provide real-time feedback between outings while our Lightroom Classic demonstrations will help you fully realize your creative vision through editing.
You'll get help with composition, exposure, field workflow, and creative decision-making in a relaxed, fun environment built around learning.
NEW PODCAST EPISODES EVERY OTHER TUESDAY
Useful insights for beginners, hobbyists, and experienced photographers alike.
Every other week, we talk through the real side of nature photography: what happens in the field, what makes an image work, what gets in the way creatively, and how to keep growing without taking the whole thing too seriously.
The podcast is part creative conversation and part practical photography education. We pick a topic for each episode and dive in deep as we share our honest thoughts and insights about the ups and downs of being a nature photographer. Several guests have also joined us, such as Sarah Marino, Ben Horne, Matt Payne, Alex Noriega, John Barclay and Cole Thompson, and more!
As a Patreon member, enjoy exclusive bonus episodes along with early access to all upcoming episodes, and participate in conservations for every topic we cover.
GROWTH FOR EVERYONE
Photography education without the pressure.
Our approach to teaching photography is straightforward: meet photographers where they are from a skills and confidence standpoint, help them understand what matters in the moment, and give them tools they can actually use the next time they're in the field.
We care about technical skill, but not at the expense of creativity. We care about strong compositions, but not in a way that makes photography feel mechanical. Whether we're talking on the podcast or working with someone in person, the goal is to help photographers slow down, see more clearly, and make better decisions with confidence.
Small groups
More room for individual attention, questions, and real-time feedback to get the most out of time spent working together.
Technical confidence
Exposure, focus bracketing, field workflow, and practical skills to make photography less frustrating.
Creative growth
Composition, visual awareness, personal style, and learning how to make images that feel more intentional.
Real field experience
Instruction shaped by actual time outdoors, not generic advice disconnected from changing conditions
